About The Position

The Operational Excellence (OPEX) Engineer at Newell Brands will lead productivity project implementations within the Yankee Candle Manufacturing Facility. This role involves advising various departments and participating in cross-functional teams to enhance the effective use of manpower and materials, driving measurable improvements. The OPEX Engineer will foster a results-driven, team-oriented culture focused on continuous improvement through the application of Lean, Six Sigma, and TPM principles.

Requirements

  • BSME, BSIE or relevant technical BS Degree.
  • Minimum of 1 - 4 years plant/operations experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading Six Sigma/Continuous Improvement projects in a manufacturing environment.
  • Working knowledge of Six Sigma tools and methodology, strong quantitative, analytical and process redesign skills, along with excellent project management skills.
  • Lean manufacturing experience with ability to lead SMED, Kaizen, 5S and TPM events/projects.
  • Good understanding of financial measurements and goals in the Lean/Flow throughput world.
  • Strong facilitation and leadership skills.
  • Excellent communication skills to lead and support empowered employees in a team environment.
  • Strong presentation skills to effectively communicate project progress, results, data analysis, and training delivery.
  • Willingness to work outside of regular hours as required by projects.
  • Proficiency in MS Office software including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Minitab, and Visio.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • High energy, self-motivated, enthusiastic, well organized.
  • Ability to work in a highly matrixed organization.

Nice To Haves

  • 2-4 years Lean Manufacturing experience.
  • Green Belt Certification.
  • 5+ years of manufacturing experience.
  • Experience with assembly and packaging of consumer products.
  • Experience with automation, packaging and assembly equipment, robotics, PLCs.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the successful implementation of productivity/process improvement projects within the plant.
  • Complete financial cost analysis for productivity/process improvement projects.
  • Mentor employees on the use of Lean Manufacturing Tools.
  • Mentor productivity project leaders on Six Sigma Tools and Methodologies and Data Analysis.
  • Share best practice methods and ideas across departments.
  • Manage all aspects of the Lean Team Program.
  • Oversee training, coaching, and mentoring of Lean Team members.
  • Prioritize implementation and results, regularly updating the leadership team on project progress.
  • Update cost savings for owned projects on a monthly basis.
  • Help deliver annual productivity targets through ideation and project execution.
  • Support and drive the implementation of PEAK at the site.
