About the position
The Machine Operator I in Metal Shop at Knoll is responsible for the fabrication and production of steel, aluminum, and plastic products, ensuring adherence to quality and design standards. This role requires technical expertise in operating metal fabrication equipment and involves close collaboration with more experienced machine operators. The position emphasizes quality control, safety compliance, and participation in continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Fabricate and produce steel, aluminum, and plastic products according to Knoll quality and design standards.
- Set up and operate metal fabrication equipment appropriate for skill level.
- Make relevant technical decisions and exercise discriminating judgment.
- Conduct 100% inspection of finished products before proceeding to the next fabrication stage.
- Participate in continuous improvement teams within the work cell.
- Perform preventative maintenance and housekeeping duties in the work area.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) or relevant work experience demonstrating performance competency.
- Experience in a metal fabrication environment operating machinery.
- Ability to read and interpret dimensions and surfaces from design drawings.
- Ability to measure parts to 1/32 using tape measure, calipers, and shop measurement devices.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
Nice-to-haves
- Experience with air and electric hand tools such as grinders, drills, and files.
- Willingness to receive training from more experienced machine operators.
