About The Position

The Operator Trainee position at The J.R. Simplot Company is designed for individuals to undergo training across various operational areas within the plant. The role emphasizes safety, environmental compliance, and effective communication while performing tasks related to manufacturing operations. Trainees will be expected to contribute to process improvements and maintain a clean and safe work environment, ultimately progressing to operator positions as they gain experience.

Requirements

  • Minimum high school diploma or GED.
  • 2 years previous work experience in a heavy industrial setting or equivalent technical training/certification.
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Proficient in reading and writing English to understand work instructions and document results.
  • Ability to write and follow technical standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Understanding of process flow diagrams and basic mechanical machinery principles.
  • Proven strong attendance and flexibility with work schedules, open to overtime.
  • Ability to work shift work including holidays and in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to stand for long periods, possibly for up to 12 hours.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of chemistry, mathematics, and technical writing.
  • Experience in emergency response and hazmat.

Responsibilities

  • Strengthen and improve safety in the workplace through compliance with rules and regulations, safety inspections, training, and PPE requirements.
  • Ensure environmental compliance through proper knowledge and execution of all activities, reporting hazards and incidents to the shift Supervisor.
  • Safely operate manufacturing equipment and perform required inspections of assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Maintain good communication among Operators, Crews, shift Supervisors, and management throughout the shift.
  • Conduct and ensure completion of various inspections, tests, audits, and housekeeping activities.
  • Work with stakeholders to build process knowledge, troubleshoot common problems, and discuss opportunities with Supervisor.
  • Follow all safety policies and procedures, participating in required safety training and meetings.
  • Ensure proper documentation and record keeping as required by policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment throughout the production plant areas.
  • Effectively function within a team environment or work as an individual contributor.
  • Participate on Health, Safety and Environmental teams to continuously improve the work environment.
  • Maintain full awareness of emergency response procedures.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
