About The Position

The Operator / Plant Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the plant and process facilities. This role involves monitoring plant equipment, performing minor maintenance tasks, and assisting in training new crew members. The operator works with minimal supervision and is expected to adhere to safety and environmental policies while ensuring optimal plant performance.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Demonstrated knowledge of power plant operation and outside operator job skills.
  • Minimum of one year of demonstrated competence in outside operator competencies.
  • Knowledge of PC software applications, including spreadsheet, word processing, and database.
  • Ability to work a rotating 12 hour shift schedule.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to lift and carry loads up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and steps as high as 60 feet.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in a power plant environment.
  • Certification in safety or environmental procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Adhere to and support all company safety and environmental rules, policies and procedures.
  • Perform a variety of chemical analysis, including obtaining samples, performing the analysis and interpreting the results.
  • Inspect and monitor equipment to detect malfunctions, need for repair, adjustments or lubrication.
  • Read meters and gauges or automatic recording devices at specified intervals to verify plant-operating conditions.
  • Record and use equipment data to make necessary control changes in plant equipment.
  • Assist in start-up, operation and shutdown of all equipment, including starting and stopping turbines.
  • Perform minor maintenance, housekeeping, preservation tasks and emergency repairs.
  • Accurately record and communicate daily operations and maintenance actions taken during a shift.
  • Conduct training for others in areas such as safety, equipment operations and environmental procedures.
  • Initiate work orders as needed.
  • Operate plant vehicles, forklift and personnel cart.
  • Progress in the company-training program and assist others.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
