The packaging operator is responsible for operating, monitoring, and adjusting the packaging equipment in a manner consistent with production needs and quality standards. This role involves maintaining safe work practices, monitoring line-flow rates, ensuring proper feed of product through baggers, and maintaining the efficiency of packaging operations.

Requirements

• Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions and correspondence in English.
• Ability to write accurate information on simple forms in English.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical operations.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions.
• Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision.

Responsibilities

• Maintains safe work practices at all times and participates in safety programs.
• Monitors line-flow rates and performs regular checks for proper feed of product through baggers.
• Monitors and adjusts vibrators for optimum bagger performance.
• Orders packaging material from storage as needed.
• Monitors bagger operation and ensures baggers are fed with enough product.
• Checks bag weights and adjusts to meet quality assurance standards.
• Changes tape and wires on jaws, and paper and poly rolls.
• Monitors dyna-pack operation and adjusts settings as needed.
• Monitors case settler and case sealer operations, adjusting for different fiber.
• Monitors ink-jet coder for proper code placement and clarity.
• Ensures line sanitation and keeps packaging area clean.
• Records packaging machinery efficiencies and downtime.
• Troubleshoots equipment operation and identifies mechanical and electrical problems.
• Instructs packaging laborers and temporary employees on efficient operation.
