The Mat Room Operator is responsible for loading material on the Karl Mayer, troubleshooting equipment issues, recipe changes for profiles, inventory and any other tasks assigned by manager. The position requires working in an environment with high noise levels, requiring hearing protection in designated areas, and safety glasses along with other personal protective equipment. The work is moderate to fast-paced, with frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts and handling of fiberglass materials, resin composite, clean-up solvents, and adhesives.

  • Understands and has working knowledge of all parts and processes supplied.
  • Can set-up, start-up, produce quality parts, and shut-down the equipment.
  • Performs validation check list.
  • Conducts experiments, traces to capture and record vital data.
  • Performs Total Productive Maintenance duties including the business end of the machine such as cleaning, cards, pumps, etc.
  • Fill and maintain correct level in pumps or pots.
  • Monitor mat and glass flow from racks through cards into injector and die.
  • Check, monitor and evaluate quality of part at the exit of the die.
  • Ability to read and work with PLC to evaluate all information required.
  • Remains in work area.
  • Visually inventories and restocks or communicates with other workers to determine needed supplies.
  • Regular/dependable attendance required.
  • Flexibility of work hours including overtime.
  • Able to work with and around moving equipment.
  • Maintain accurate run, production and down time during work shift.
  • Troubleshoot engineering and maintenance issues.
  • Must maintain a PIV license.
  • Learns and performs repetitive job tasks.
  • Good housekeeping.
  • Comply with safety, quality, and production requirements/procedures.
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to assemble and dis-mantle machinery and tools.
  • Must be able to read, understand and follow line schedules.

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

  • Basic knowledge and use of hand tools.
  • Ability to read dial calipers, micrometers, surface meters, scales and other measuring equipment.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and maintenance instructions.
  • Read and interpret documents, safety rules, and procedure manuals.
  • Computer skills to include the input of work orders into MP2.
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and pneumatics/hydraulics.
  • Decision making/problem solving skills.
  • Time management skills.
  • General knowledge of PLC controls (Programmable Logic Controllers). Does not include programming.
  • Ability to work with and communicate with outside vendors and contractors.
  • Ability to lead by example.
  • Ability to maintain a level of patience and self-control under difficult times.
