As an Operator in Training based in Farmington, NM, you'll join a collaborative team ensuring that our clients can deliver their services - uninterrupted. Under supervision, performs a variety of tasks associated with learning the associated responsibilities of a certified water/wastewater operator - in preparation for receiving an entry-level certification.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma / GED.
  • Valid Driver's License.
  • New Mexico Water supply 1 Water license (Required within 18 months of conversion).

Responsibilities

  • Under the direction of a certified Water or Wastewater Operator, performs tasks associated with the operations of a water or wastewater facility.
  • Operates treatment facilities to control flow and processing of water/wastewater, sludge, and effluent.
  • Reports operating problems to lead operator or supervisor and performs directed corrective action during assigned shift.
  • Monitors gauges, meters, and control panels.
  • Observes and reports abnormalities to Certified Operator.
  • After training, operates valves and gates either manually or by remote control.
  • After training, starts and stops pumps, engines and generators to control and adjust flow and treatment processes.
  • Maintains shift log and records meter and gauge readings.
  • Learns and gains skill in a variety of equipment maintenance, servicing, and operating tasks.
  • Performs routine maintenance functions and custodial duties.
  • Understands and carries out oral and written directions.
  • Takes and records readings produced from the operation of equipment.
  • Learns to take samples and perform routine process laboratory tests and analysis under supervision of certified operator.
  • Daily and punctual attendance in the office and/or job site.
  • Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships with those contacted during the course of work.
  • This position may be required to be available on an on-call basis for emergencies.
  • Travel between work locations is required.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
