Operator III – Water/Wastewater Treatment Job Function / Purpose The Operator III is responsible for the operation and maintenance of equipment at medium to large-sized water and/or wastewater treatment facilities. B water and B Wastewater license required

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required. Minimum of 4 years of experience in water/wastewater operations.
  • Valid Driver’s License (CDL preferred). Wastewater Operator License required.
  • Advanced knowledge of water/wastewater operations. Ability to interpret operational manuals and instructions. Intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office and internet-based tools.
  • Clear and professional communication. Ability to collaborate across teams, maintain composure under pressure, and provide thorough information to colleagues and clients.
  • Detail-oriented with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving complex issues. Escalates concerns appropriately and shares ideas to enhance quality and productivity.
  • Capable of working independently and completing projects with minimal supervision. Manages multiple priorities efficiently and adheres to company policies and SOPs.
  • Displays a positive, accountable, and leadership-driven mindset. Acts according to the company’s mission and values. Trains and mentors others. Able to lead in the supervisor’s absence.
  • Must be able to frequently lift 50–60 pounds; move heavy equipment/tools; access confined spaces; walk and climb stairs and ladders regularly.

Responsibilities

  • Operate equipment and machinery such as valves, pumps, motors, belt presses, disinfection systems, and vehicles.
  • Conduct routine testing, monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of production wells and treatment processes.
  • Document plant performance including daily flow and chemical usage, and maintain treatment facility equipment.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies to repair pumps, motors, instrumentation, and other equipment.
  • Ensure plant security and cleanliness, including grounds maintenance as needed.
  • Train staff on operational procedures, equipment repair, and safety practices.
  • Provide customer service support and communicate with clients on technical aspects of operations.
  • May coordinate maintenance activities at the facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Willingness to work varied shifts including weekends, holidays, evenings, and on-call 24/7 as needed.
