Purpose: Responsible for operations in the Sheet Casting area, formulating acrylic sheets to create buttons, for the manufacture of intraocular acrylic lenses. Adheres to environmental policy, procedures and supports department environmental objectives.

Requirements

  • A minimum of an Associate’s Degree in Science is required, major in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering is preferred.
  • At least one (1) year of experience in manufacturing related environment is preferred.
  • Ability to write and read in English is required.
  • Availability to work overtime, various work schedules, which include 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shifts, including weekends and holidays is required.

Responsibilities

  • Purify five types of monomers (raw material) to obtain the highest degree of purification to meet the specifications required by the "Sheet Casting" procedure.
  • Prepares the molds and stoichiometric mixture of the monomers for the formulation of the acrylic sheets, according to MI (Manufacturing Instruction) specifications.
  • Receives the chemicals and stores them in the right place in compliance with the GMP and safety specifications.
  • Places the monomer mixture in a mold and then introduce in a water bath at the temperature required by the procedures for curing and solidifying the sheet.
  • Removes the molds from water curing bath, demolds (if apply), and transfers to the "curing oven" for drying the sheets.
  • Removes the sheets and inspects the thickness of the sheet and cosmetic defects to meet the process specifications.
  • Performs the punch press process to obtain the volume of buttons required by the nominal yield of the process.
  • Places the buttons on a "button tray" and then on the "annealing" ovens for removal of moisture, and any other contaminant that the product may have, to obtain a button that can meet quality parameters.
  • Perform a visual inspection for any cosmetic defect and make sure the quantity per tray.
  • Performs the Haze operation to verify the opacity of the lens and disposition by level observed, according to the MI.
  • Places temperature monitoring charts in chart recorder equipment and monitors them following established procedures.
  • Stores and disposes of liquid and solid waste within the "Sheet Casting" area in accordance with EHS rules and regulations.
  • Documents all the required information in the production orders following the GMPs and enters the transactions in the system (SAP) regarding the quantity of accepted/rejected units and materials to ensure the veracity of the different Reports.
  • Cleans and washes used equipment.
  • Keeps work area clean, using established chemicals to provide a completely clean area and complies with good manufacturing practices.
  • Review logbooks to assure the Quality process.
  • Maintain the record retention of all documents as requested.
