About The Position

Irvine Ranch Water District is currently hiring Two (2) Operator I's in the Water Operations Department. Under direct supervision, the incumbent will monitor, analyze and control the potable and recycled water systems and treatment plants through field control devices or using the computer-based regional telemetry control system. This position is the entry level in the Water Operations Operator series and as such, incumbents will be trained in the operation of the potable and recycled water systems and treatment plants. The Operator I will assist certified operators of the appropriate level of the water system or treatment plant in making process or control changes.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent with additional college-level courses in Water Treatment.
  • One year experience in water distribution/treatment systems operations.
  • A valid Class 'C' California Driver's License is required.
  • California State Water Resources Control Board Grade 1 Water Distribution Certification (D1) required.
  • California State Water Resources Control Board Grade 1 Water Treatment Certification (T1) required.

Responsibilities

  • Patrols the District's water system and treatment plants.
  • Performs routine water quality sampling and assists in adjusting chemicals to comply with Federal, State, and local regulations.
  • Effectively communicates all operating conditions essential to the efficient operation of the water systems or plants as directed.
  • Reports all operating problems or emergencies immediately to a higher-grade operator, supervisor, or manager as available.
  • Assists in the chlorinating and testing of pipelines and reservoirs; checks chlorine dosage rates; records daily usage.
  • Reads and documents critical water system pressures, flows, reservoir elevations and water quality.
  • Monitors chemical dosing facilities, pumping stations, treatment plants, wells, pressure regulating/flow control structures and reservoirs.
  • Meets with customers regarding complaints.
  • Maintains daily journals and other control data to document the progress and completion of projects.
  • Participates in pipeline shutdowns and startup of new facilities.
  • Responsible for the maintenance of tools and supplies assigned to vehicles.
  • Conducts accurate physical and chemical tests of water.
  • Works according to safety standards under potentially hazardous conditions.
  • Takes readings from meters, gauges, graphs, and related instrumentation.
  • Assists in troubleshooting variations in operating conditions; reports findings to the Water Operations Supervisor.
  • Performs lab tests and analyzes data to determine unit process and overall treatment efficiency.
  • May be required to work overtime.
  • May be required to work stand-by once the appropriate certification level of a California State Water Resources Control Board Grade 2 Treatment Certification is achieved.
  • Complies with District safety work-related practices and attends relevant safety training.
