POSITION SUMMARY Operates a variety of equipment (excluding cranes) used in the construction, maintenance and repair of marine vessels and shipyard maintenance.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED equivalence plus one to three years’ experience in the operation of a variety of heavy equipment required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
• Requires knowledge of ship terminology, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards.
• Ability to read and comprehend written, verbal, or diagram form or plans.
• Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, verbal, or diagram form.
• Ability to read and understand load charts.
• Knowledge of safe operation and use of hand and power tools.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure.
• Integrity, ethics, flexibility/adaptability, initiative, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, safety conscious, and multi-tasking.
• Maintain the confidential integrity of details pertaining to Eastern Shipbuilding Group.
• Valid driver’s license.

Responsibilities

• Regular attendance at work and the ability to work flexible hours, including overtime, weekends, and holidays.
• Operate trucks, and construction equipment such as mini excavator, , skid steer, , telescopic telehandler forklift, etc.
• Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment.
• Perform routine inspection on assigned equipment and notify management required maintenance and/or repair.
• Perform all duties in conformance to appropriate safety and security standards.
• Work with hand signals from Universal Standard Signal Chart.
• Work with minimal supervision.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
