About The Position

We are seeking an Operations Watch Technician (Swing Shift) to join our team supporting AFNCR at Joint Base Andrews, MD. The AFNCR IT Services program provides support services for information systems for Headquarters Air Force (HAF), Air Force District of Washington (AFDW), Office of the Secretary of Defense (OSD), Joint Chiefs of Staff, and other Air Force activities within the AFNCR missions to include the Pentagon, Joint Base Andrews (JBA), Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling (JBAB), and other locations, leased spaces, and alternate sites. Requirements

  • Active DoD Secret clearance
  • Active IAT II certification
  • Experience with BMC Remedy Ticketing System
  • Experience using network monitoring tools
  • Knowledge of Air Force environment and protocols
  • A solid understanding of Network equipment, their capabilities, and architecture
  • 3-5 years of System Administration experience
  • Excellent briefing and oral communication skills

Responsibilities

  • Know the Air Force District of Washington classified and unclassified environment and determine if systems/services are offline or degraded
  • Communicate the operational status with the Ops Watch team, customers, and Major Incident Response (MIR)
  • Create incident tickets based on alerts from monitoring tools such as SCOM and SolarWinds
  • Track the status of down nodes and services
  • Understand how monitoring tools work and their limitations
  • Work to improve monitoring capabilities through feedback to the Enterprise Monitoring Team who maintains the toolset
  • Actively participate in troubleshooting outages in support of MIR
  • Report what you see and assist in any other way possible
  • Take this time to recognize the limitations of our monitoring tools and identify those limitations as requirements to EMT afterward and in the After-Action Reports
