About The Position

The Operations Technician III provides high quality assembly, repair, testing, and preventative maintenance support for Sea-Bird Scientific instrumentation across multiple product lines, including CSTAR, UBAT, and CROVER, in both production and service environments. This position requires advanced technical proficiency in soldering, diagnostics, and electronic troubleshooting to ensure product reliability, service turnaround time, and on time delivery commitments are met. This is a hands-on technical role responsible for supporting a wide range of instruments and must demonstrate adaptability when shifting between product lines based on operational priorities. The Operations Technician III is expected to follow established standard work, identify and escalate material shortages or technical issues, support process improvement initiatives, and collaborate effectively with cross functional teams to maintain workflow continuity. Success in this role requires strong troubleshooting ability, effective communication, a positive and team oriented mindset, and a willingness to cross train on multiple platforms as well as provide technical knowledge transfer to peers when needed. This position directly supports both new production builds and service repairs and requires flexibility, attention to detail, and a high level of ownership in maintaining quality and throughput.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of related experience with demonstrated advanced mechanical aptitude and strong soldering skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams, and effectively use test equipment such as power supplies, digital multimeters, and oscilloscopes.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, experience with Oracle or ServiceMax preferred, and ability to learn scientific or plotting software.
  • Strong attention to detail, effective communication and collaboration skills, good time management, willingness to cross train across product lines, and a proven record of reliability and punctuality.

Responsibilities

  • Perform repair, assembly, testing, verification, and preventative maintenance on Sea-Bird Scientific equipment following established work instructions.
  • Conduct advanced soldering, wiring, and electronic component-level troubleshooting and repair using a structured and logical approach.
  • Support production and service operations across CSTAR, UBAT, and CROVER product lines.
  • Follow detailed technical documentation including drawings, schematics, bills of material, and internal procedures to ensure accurate builds.
  • Complete pre-assembly and final quality inspections to ensure components and finished assemblies meet standards.
  • Accurately document service activities, repair findings, and identified issues according to standard protocols.
  • Identify and escalate part shortages, quality concerns, and process issues to leadership in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate and communicate effectively with team members to meet daily, weekly, and monthly production targets.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying workflow inefficiencies and supporting cross-training and peer training efforts.
