About The Position

Since 1984, Northwest Youth Corps (NYC), a non-profit organization, has given tens of thousands of youth and young adults opportunities to learn, grow, and experience success. Through partnerships with conservation agencies, youth and young adults gain the personal and professional skills needed to carry out a variety of stewardship projects, from which they can earn a paycheck, high school credit, and/or an AmeriCorps educational award. More importantly, these young people gain skills needed to become economically and socially self-sufficient, benefit their communities as citizen stewards, and recognize that they can make a positive difference. NYC also operates an accredited charter school, internship program, and the Idaho Conservation Corps (ICC). NYC engages youth and young adults from all walks of life and provides a multifaceted experience that helps propel them into future opportunities and careers. Hard and soft skills are taught and reinforced through formal practical trainings. NYC strives to provide program participants the skills and competencies needed to succeed in a wide variety of professional environments and life circumstances. The Operations Team Member collaborates with the other department staff to complete duties within assigned areas of focus. The Operations department provides support to facilitate programs for Northwest Youth Corps. Areas of focus include the crew vehicles, equipment, food, tools, and maintenance shop. A successful candidate will be able to identify and prioritize daily and weekly projects to then carry them to completion with minimal supervision. Operations staff will consistently model safe practices and follow industry standards as well as local operating procedures. This position requires a high level of collaboration.

Requirements

  • Must possess a valid driver's license and acceptable driving record
  • must be able to pass NYC/ICC's driving test and have the ability to safely navigate congested city streets while towing cargo trailers.

  • Seek to remove barriers to participation in NYC programs for underrepresented populations
  • Maintain NYC Vehicles and Facilities – The position will mainly be r esponsible assisting other Operations staff with custodial, vehicle maintenance, shop and tool repair, programs support, and the food program. Tasks may include tool issuing, facilities maintenance, custodial duties, and loading and unloading supplies, food, and equipment, as well as cleaning, sharpening, and rehandling tools, cleaning vehicles, maintaining inventories and databases, and coordinating with vendors for
  • Collaborate with the Oregon, Idaho, and Washington Operations Department as well as other departments.
