The Operations Systems Analyst I position at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) is part of the Technology Services Infrastructure Services team. This role is focused on supporting network operations within a 24/7 environment, requiring candidates to work from 4:00 PM to 12:00 AM. The analyst will assist in resolving network and server issues, monitor for security breaches, and contribute to daily reporting and incident management. The position emphasizes collaboration, customer service, and continuous learning in a diverse environment.

  • Assist in resolution of network and server issues using investigational and networking tools.
  • Monitor and notify system/network owners of potential security breaches and assist with remediation.
  • Assist with daily reports and incident handling.
  • Recognize, troubleshoot, and resolve issues effectively.
  • Perform server racking and de-racking tasks.
  • Conduct disk wipes as necessary.
  • Run SAN and fiber cables.
  • Demonstrated skills in change management in a complex data center environment.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve problems effectively.
  • Knowledge of network control operations and security monitoring.
  • Ability to provide support and training to other team members.
  • Strong customer service attitude and ability to work with limited supervision.
  • Ability to assist with cable and server installs and lift up to 25 pounds.
  • Experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment.
  • Four-year degree, certificate, or formal training in Information Technology.
  • Network and Security Operations experience.
  • Work experience in a large data center.
  • Demonstrated skills in Change Management.
