About The Position

The Modeling and Engineering Support Engineer/Specialist/Analyst position at Georgia Power is part of the Power Delivery Operations Support Organization, specifically within the Modeling & Engineering Support (MES) team. This role focuses on maintaining and updating the transmission control systems displays within the Energy Management System (EMS) platform, ensuring safe monitoring and operation of the electric grid. The position requires collaboration with internal and external partners to accurately reflect operational conditions and may involve off-hours availability for urgent situations and storm restoration efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or associate degree in a technical field preferred; a degree in engineering is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of transmission systems, transmission operations, and/or protection and controls is preferred.
  • Proficiency with Siemens, OSI, or other EMS platforms is a plus.
  • Experience with SCADA or industrial control systems is a plus.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications is a plus.
  • Experience with coding and programming, particularly with SQL, Python, and PERL, is a plus.
  • Strong skills in problem-solving, decision-making, and multi-tasking are required.
  • Ability to analyze data and communicate insights effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Self-directed with strong initiative and a customer-focused approach.
  • Ability to work independently and build productive relationships with a focus on collaboration.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Perform modeling and engineering tasks to ensure EMS system databases and displays accurately reflect real-time system conditions.
  • Create and maintain SCADA systems displays for substations and transmission lines.
  • Manage retirement of equipment and rating changes.
  • Handle alarms and controls associated with relay modernizations and communication devices.
  • Enhance displays, address ad hoc requests, and troubleshoot abnormalities.
  • Manage databases effectively.
  • Coordinate work within assigned areas of responsibility, including Integrated Transmission System (ITS) participants.
  • Build and establish productive relationships with customers, communicating effectively to support their needs.
  • Foster innovation in processes and tools through automation and programming.
  • Support employee-led safety culture, diversity and inclusion, and human performance initiatives.
  • Assist with projects and committees across Southern Company as required.
  • Be available for storm restoration efforts.
