About The Position

The Operations Supervisor at Autoport Limited's Lansing, MI facility is responsible for overseeing the 24/7/365 operational functions of the railyard. This role involves balancing operational demands to achieve terminal goals related to performance, growth, and profitability, aligning with the Southern Region's broader objectives. The supervisor contributes to the development, implementation, and monitoring of operational planning goals and strategic initiatives for long-term success. Additionally, the Operations Supervisor monitors and reports on compliance with operational and safety regulations, implements departmental safety initiatives, and supports cross-departmental safety goals. The role also focuses on fostering strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the safe, timely, and efficient movement of product from arrival through yard exit.

Requirements

  • Strong project management, organizational, and time management skills, with demonstrated experience leading and coordinating teams in a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Proven leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build positive working relationships and effectively resolve workplace conflicts.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint), with the ability to use these tools for reporting, communication, scheduling, and data management.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks, manage competing demands, and support operational efficiency while maintaining a high standard of safety and accountability.
  • Satisfactory criminal background check required.
  • Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driver’s abstract required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with a unionized workforce is considered an asset.
  • Rail and/or automotive industry experience is considered an asset.
  • Previous experience working with transportation providers that specialize in the automotive industry is considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with multiple operational units to ensure services are delivered to customers; co-ordinate, assign and review work.
  • Conform to all safety procedures and maintain a high level of safety awareness in the work environment, ensuring that safety procedures are adhered to at all times.
  • Utilize strong communication skills to build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Exhibit dedication to getting the job done while meeting established standards of quality, safety, and client satisfaction.
  • Effectively communicate instructions, directions, processes, procedures, safety rules and regulations to co-workers, supervisors, and others in written, oral, diagrammatic, and schedule form.
  • Must be able to assess and correct problems in stressful situations with tight time constraints.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills to facilitate and execute coordinated service delivery.
  • Strong ethics with the ability to be fair, but firm.
  • Ability to delegate, monitor, and provide guidance to sub-teams in order to facilitate the completion of special projects such as safety and operational initiatives.
  • Must be able to manage an extensive workforce and develop timely solutions to operating problems.
  • Able to interface both within the company and with customers’ organizations at various levels.
