The position involves supervising assigned operators and operating passenger vans or buses to monitor road conditions, routes, and schedules. The role includes evaluating the performance of transit operators and other assigned staff, assessing route and schedule deficiencies, training needs, and required facilities repairs. The supervisor serves as a liaison between passengers and the agency and may schedule Routed or ACCESS Operators in accordance with union contract guidelines. Additional responsibilities include supervising the dispatch function, scheduling operators and equipment to ensure optimal service levels, maintaining communication with operators, and modifying routes as appropriate. The supervisor is also responsible for ensuring staff training on scheduling and dispatch software, responding to accidents, vehicle mechanical problems, and passenger incidents, and reporting these to the appropriate authorities. The role requires conducting studies or projects to monitor and evaluate service, equipment, and facilities, making recommendations for improvements, and preparing reports. The supervisor participates in hiring operators, assigns work, monitors and evaluates staff, and conducts training and staff development. Documentation of performance-related events is also required, along with conducting training for new operators and retraining existing staff. The position may involve driving a minimum of two hours semiannually in each vehicle type operated by Kitsap Transit and may include organizing reciprocal 'Guest Rider' programs with other Transit Agencies.
