About The Position

This position is responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and reliable plant operations that support production goals. This role oversees process yield, production rates, and chemical usage, making necessary adjustments in collaboration with Operations and Logistics. Additional responsibilities include managing staff schedules, ensuring accurate documentation, and leading the development of SOPs and operator check sheets. The Operations Superintendent fosters a culture of excellence through close collaboration with organizational leadership while directly supervising the Operations and Logistics departments.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor of Science degree preferred; or five (5) years’ related experience and/or training in leadership roles; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ refinery or chemical manufacturing experience required.
  • Ability to read and write effective reports and business correspondence using standard Microsoft Office products.
  • Ability to communicate with plant management and provide analysis as needed.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a culture of excellence in Process Safety, HSE, and quality by leading through example, auditing compliance, and implementing best practices.
  • Oversee daily plant operations to achieve production and safety goals by identifying issues, implementing corrective actions, and driving continuous improvement.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor Shift Managers and the Logistics Supervisor to ensure effective performance, ethical conduct, and professional development.
  • Ensure strict adherence to SOPs for safe startup, operation, and shutdown of plant processes.
  • Collaborate in planning and executing preventive maintenance to maximize reliability and production efficiency.
  • Manage workforce planning, including employee selection, onboarding, training, scheduling, and fatigue risk management to maintain staffing levels and competencies.
  • Monitor and report overtime, staffing metrics, and operational continuity to optimize shift schedules and workforce utilization.
  • Participate in critical reviews, modifications, and development of processes and procedures; ensure compliance with the Management of Change program.
  • Oversee accurate documentation of operational activities, including production reports, shift logs, and data trackers.
  • Support and maintain compliance with the BQ9000 Quality Program, Process Safety Management (PSM), and QSH&E objectives.
  • Assist Departmental Managers in ensuring regulatory compliance, coordinating contractor activities, scheduling maintenance work, and supporting payroll accuracy.
  • Partner with engineering to review production run sheets, troubleshoot issues, and provide management with daily operational updates.
  • Direct and oversee Operations and Logistics functions under the Plant Manager’s guidance, including training, goal setting, work assignments, and performance management.
