About The Position

To support this mission, Syngenta's Operations & Trialing Team is seeking an Operations Specialist in Woodland, CA. This role will play a vital role in supporting our vegetable breeding projects by managing day-to-day operations and supervising contract labor teams. The Operations Specialist will be responsible for executing greenhouse and field operations, maintaining seed quality standards, and ensuring proper data management while adhering to all HSE (Health, Safety, & Environment) and stewardship practices. The role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to innovative agricultural research while developing expertise in seed production and management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Associate's degree in Plant Breeding, Agronomy, Biology, Horticulture, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite and database management.
  • Experience with agricultural equipment and seed processing tools.
  • Strong organizational and planning skills with ability to manage multiple priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills; bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
  • Experience with or ability to learn specialized breeding management software and data collection tools.

Responsibilities

  • Manage seed-to-seed processes such as extraction, packaging, health testing, inventory registration, and shipment coordination for vegetable trials and breeding nurseries.
  • Execute field operations such as seeding, planting, spraying, and threshing while maintaining detailed records of plant growth and pollination.
  • Supervise and train third-party contract labor teams, ensuring quality standards and performance metrics are met.
  • Maintain accurate database records for seed inventory, field trial layouts, and processing documentation.
  • Collaborate with breeding teams and peers to coordinate project activities and communicate status updates.
  • Respond to field emergencies and weather-related challenges, including occasional weekend work as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with all safety protocols and stewardship practices.
