The Operations Research Consultant at American Airlines is responsible for supporting decision-making processes across various airline operations, including pricing, revenue management, fleet optimization, and customer analytics. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify business opportunities, analyzing data, and developing advanced analytical models to drive informed decisions and promote data-driven practices within the company.

  • Support decision-making across the airline in areas such as pricing, revenue management, and fleet optimization.
  • Work with cross-functional teams to identify business opportunities and frame analytics problems.
  • Obtain, manipulate, clean, and analyze structured and unstructured data from diverse sources.
  • Build and validate advanced analytical and statistical models using forecasting, optimization, and simulation techniques.
  • Deploy models as proofs-of-concept or fully productionized implementations.
  • Monitor and maintain deployed models to ensure continued effectiveness.
  • Quantify business impacts and communicate actionable recommendations to business partners.
  • Promote data-driven decision making by delivering workshops and tutorials.
  • Masters degree in Operations Research, Industrial Engineering, Systems Engineering, or related field.
  • 1 year of experience as Consultant, Research Assistant, Teaching Assistant, Intern, or similar roles.
  • Experience in utilizing analytical skills including Linear, Non-linear Programming, and Mixed-Integer Programming.
  • Knowledge of non-deterministic optimization techniques including Dynamic Programming, stochastic and/or robust optimization.
  • Experience in building and designing solution algorithms for large scale optimization models.
  • Ability to explain complex technical concepts to diverse audiences and prepare presentations.
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, C++, or Java.
  • Experience in data extraction, cleaning, and analysis using SQL, R, or Python.
  • Familiarity with data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau, R, or Python.
  • Experience in implementing optimization models with GUROBI, CPLEX, or XPRESS.
  • Knowledge of forecasting and statistical methods including regression and classification models.
