About The Position

Synthego is a pioneering force in the biotechnology industry, dedicated to advancing the frontiers of CRISPR cell and gene therapies through cutting-edge CRISPR technology and expertise. This summer we are opening our doors and looking to welcome a Mechanical Engineering intern to partner with our Synthegoats on the Operations Engineering team. We are seeking an ambitious intern, to help us bring precision and automation to genome engineering. Ideal candidates will not only be skilled engineers but also have an appreciation for collaboration, problem solving, and working as a team to support a common goal. As an intern, you will be working with a team of technicians and engineers – each an expert in their domain. This opportunity is a 10-week paid internship running from June to August.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 1 year cumulative work or relevant academic work
  • Excellent understanding of manufacturing techniques, processes and DFM concepts
  • Familiar and comfort with handling common workshop tools
  • Experience working with CAD design tools (SolidWorks)
  • Is a “Maker” who enjoys hands-on work
  • An extensive portfolio of projects to show us
  • Pursuing a B.S. or M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • Top grades from relevant top-tier academic institution

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledgeable in Python or similar programming language
  • Ability to build test jigs and automation experience
  • Hands on skills with tools and equipment to enable bringing designs to life
  • Superior skills in SolidWorks for CAD

Responsibilities

  • Build CAD models based off designer input and functional product requirements
  • Create, update, and maintain hardware design on existing and future products using CAD
  • Conceptualize, prototype, assemble rapidly throughout product development process
  • Help design the process and assembly techniques for scaling manufacturability
  • Conduct testing and analysis of products down to fundamental level of understanding
  • Meet mission-critical project deadlines in fast-paced environment
