The Operations Manager leads all aspects of a progressive private ambulance service with multiple 911 and interfacility transport (IFT) bases throughout Michigan. This role ensures the prompt and efficient response of all emergency, non-emergency, and specialty vehicles across each market, while providing the highest quality of patient care. Working in close alignment with the Director of Michigan Operations, the Operations Manager contributes to both short- and long-term budget planning, oversees operational structure and staffing, and drives service expansion and delivery. This position is responsible for clinical operations, team engagement, communications center performance, customer service and overall operational excellence to support our communities, partners, and the patients we serve.

  • Provide strategic and operational leadership to ensure timely, compliant, and high-quality ambulance response across all service lines.
  • Lead hiring, training, performance evaluations, disciplinary actions, and collaborate with HR on final hiring, discipline and dismissal decisions.
  • Manage daily response vehicle coverage utilizing the proper personnel within the budgeted parameters.
  • Monitor daily/weekly metric and budget performance and take necessary steps to correct variances where required.
  • Responsible for participating in annual budget development and communicating performance expectations to all divisional supervisory leaders.
  • Provide open communications to managers, supervisors and staff enhancing engagement throughout the division.
  • Coordinate with Billing to ensure the accurate application of charting and billing related data.
  • Ensure the daily readiness of all vehicles and related equipment and make a recommendation for required replacements within the annual capital budget.
  • Monitor staff performance to ensure adequate supervision, consistent performance feedback, timely performance appraisals, appropriate corrective action, equitable promotion opportunities and all other related communications.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, rules, regulations, and ordinances as they pertain to EMS operations within the respective jurisdictional region.
  • Maintain 24/7 availability via cell phone for operational needs and ensure coverage during absences.
  • Develop a monthly report to the Director of Michigan for the review and analysis of operational data to ensure all metrics and performance criteria are met.
  • Coordinate procedures and regulations as well as attend meetings with agencies served.
  • Participate in development, evaluation, and revision of protocols. Handles personnel functions for staff; Ensure training meets State certification requirements; monitors and evaluates work.
  • Serve as liaison between operations division, hospitals, and public safety agencies.
  • Function as Inventory Manager for schedule II and IV medications.
  • Research and implement new technologies and service improvements.
  • Respond to inquiries, complaints, and service-related questions.
  • Ensure the maintenance and completion of records, reports, and other information required in this field. Prepare and submit various reports as required by local, state, and federal governments; oversee filing and maintenance of reports, records, and other documents as required by federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Collaborate with the Medical Director and leadership team to ensure compliance with clinical protocols and training standards.
  • Attend professional development events to stay current with EMS trends and best practices.
  • Coordinate with HR and Education teams to support recruitment, onboarding, and continuing education.
  • Oversee Field Training Officers (FTOs) in the onboarding, training, and retraining of employees; coordinates with Operations and Clinical Education to ensure effective communication and successful staff development.
  • Monitors and partners with Communications Center to ensure response; oversees and ensures optimal deployment and accountability for physical resources.
  • Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local policies, procedures, and regulations pertaining to emergency services including rescue operations and natural and man-made disaster planning and operations.
  • Thorough knowledge of resources available for emergency assistance from local, state, and federal agencies. Thorough knowledge of emergency medical principles, practices, and procedures.
  • Any other duties assigned by senior leadership.
  • High School Diploma
  • State or National Registered Paramedic
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Minimum of 3 years as an EMT-Paramedic or higher in emergency services
  • Minimum of 3 years in a leadership role within private EMS or medical transportation
  • Knowledge of methods and techniques for providing on-site emergency medical services.
  • Knowledge of company medical director approved protocols and standing orders.
  • Ability to read and interpret local maps.
  • Demonstrated skills in the successful completion of multiple, simultaneous and rapidly emergent tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand medical terminology.
  • Demonstrated ability to write reports, and correspondence.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively present information and respond to questions regarding patient care, EMS operations and other customer service issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize personal computer systems including PCR reporting, email and MDT applications.
  • Demonstrated ability to represent AmeriPro EMS and other team members as an EMS professional.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize a ventilator in a clinical environment.
