The Chase Center is a multidisciplinary university center that conducts teaching, research, and public programming concerning the core texts and great debates of Western civilization; the principles, ideals, and institutions of the American and Ohio political order; and the foundations of responsible leadership and informed citizenship. It is an independent academic unit of the University. The Center is a leader of the growing cadre of similar centers of civic thought and leadership in Ohio and throughout the country. Position Overview: The Salmon P. Chase Center for Civics, Culture, and Society is conducting a search for an Operations Manager, a person who will work closely with the Center’s administrative team to build the Center into the flourishing academic community envisioned in ORC § 3335.39. The Operations Manager, as with all members of the Center, should embrace the Center’s mission. The Operations Manager oversees Center operations, administration, and facilities management, and coordinates accounting, budgeting, financial operations, and human resources for the Center with OAA partners, ensuring these areas support the Center’s and University’s mission and strategic objectives. This position is responsible for the strategic planning, analysis, and ongoing operations of the Center. This position provides reporting and analytics support to inform strategic, budgetary and financial planning, and operations, and project management support as a means of executing. Additionally, this position oversees administrative assistance and office services to executives, managers, and staff such as clerical support, office, mail, and copy center services. This position is responsible for cross-functional management and administration of the Center’s resources, including but not limited to processes and operations, human capital, facilities, equipment, systems, and communication, and coordinating with the OAA financial team. The successful candidate will oversee the daily operations of the Center, which may include partnering with the Business Services & Finance team on budgeting, forecasting, and financial modeling. This position gathers and analyzes data to construct key performance indicators to monitor and improve performance and reinforce strategic decision making. The successful candidate is responsible for aligning the Center’s strategy with business resources and driving change and operational transformation efforts to ensure long-term business viability while maximizing the value of the organization's services. This position may be responsible for proposing or formulating policy and overseeing the preparation and management of grant and contract proposals. This position will be responsible for managing vendor relationships, relationships within the organization and, at times, relationships with peer institutions or community organizations. This role requires creativity, strong communication skills, and the ability to engage various audiences, including faculty, Ohio State colleagues, and prospective partners.

Requirements

  • Demonstrated commitment to the Chase Center’s mission of citizenship education.
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • 5+ years of experience with business administration and operations or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated excellence in writing, editing, and oral communication.
  • Demonstrated poise, professionalism, good judgment, and ability to take the extra step to meet customer needs
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, changing environment, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Regular in-person attendance is expected.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Significant experience (10+ years) in administrative or management roles, preferably in an academic environment.
  • Knowledge of business, accounting principles, fund accounting, strategic planning/budgeting, data analysis, process optimization, project management.
  • Familiarity with university policies and procedures and experience with ERP systems (specifically Workday).
