Your Purpose in this Role We are one of the top premier Commercial HVAC and Plumbing Contractors in the state of Arizona. We are looking for growth-motivated and self-starting individuals who value efficiency, reliability, and family. The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a 25k-square-foot sheet metal manufacturing facility. This role is responsible for managing personnel, workflow, quality control, equipment maintenance, material handling, and scheduling to ensure projects are completed safely, accurately, and efficiently. The manager works closely with project management, field operations, and purchasing to align shop output with company goals and client expectations.

Requirements

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in operations or project management experience in sheet metal, HVAC, or industrial construction
  • Deep understanding of sheet metal fabrication, processes, tools, equipment, installation methods, and applicable codes
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and specifications
  • Strong financial acumen: budgeting, cost control, forecasting
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects and deadlines
  • Strong knowledge of logistics, supply chain, and inventory management practices
  • Familiarity with shipping/receiving processes and documentation
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to make quick, sound decisions
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality standards
  • Positive, dependable, and punctual work ethic

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge or certification in PMP, Six Sigma, or Lean are a plus
  • OSHA 10 or 30 certification (preferred)

Responsibilities

  • Direct and supervise daily shop operations, including fabrication, assembly, and staging of materials for multiple ongoing projects.
  • Plan and coordinate workloads to meet production schedules, project deadlines, and cost objectives.
  • Provide mentorship, performance feedback, and leadership development for shop leads, welders, fabricators, and drivers.
  • Foster a culture of teamwork, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Develop and maintain efficient shop workflows that maximize productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers, Estimators, and Field Supervisors to prioritize fabrication schedules.
  • Ensure all materials are staged and delivered to job sites on time and per project specifications.
  • Oversee custom fabrication, quality control checks, and equipment calibration.
  • Implement and enforce strict quality control processes to ensure compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
  • Conduct inspections and maintain fabrication logs, weld certifications, and QA/QC documentation.
  • Ensure adherence to all company safety protocols, OSHA regulations, and equipment operation procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety meetings and job hazard analysis.
  • Manage inventory levels, material orders, and consumable supplies to minimize waste and avoid delays.
  • Oversee preventive maintenance and repair of machinery, tools, and vehicles to maintain reliability and safety.
  • Evaluate new equipment and technology to improve efficiency and precision.
  • Analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) such as productivity rates, material waste, and labor utilization.
  • Develop and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce rework.
  • Participate in budget planning, cost tracking, and job cost analysis.
  • Support company initiatives related to lean manufacturing, automation, and sustainability.
