About The Position

BlueScope Recycling is a full-service, ferrous scrap metal recycler with processing facilities in Waterloo, IN, Delta, OH, and Mansfield, OH. BlueScope Recycling buys scrap from industrial generators, wholesale suppliers, and the general public, focusing on delivering the highest level of service. Summary: The Operations Manager is a senior leader responsible for the safe, efficient, and high‑quality execution of production activities within a designated functional domain: Finished Goods, NF Downstream Operations, or Shredder Operations. This role ensures consistent profitability, operational excellence, equipment reliability, workforce leadership, and adherence to BRM standards. Operations Managers are expected to possess advanced scrap industry expertise, strong decision‑making capability, and demonstrated success leading teams in complex, high‑volume yard environments. Each manager acts as the operational authority within their assigned stream and plays a critical role in cross‑yard coordination to support throughput, yield, quality, and customer commitments.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 6+ years of experience in scrap, recycling, or heavy industrial operations
  • 4+ years of progressive supervisory or leadership experience
  • Advanced hands‑on experience operating and training on heavy equipment and attachments
  • Deep understanding of production workflows, material processing, and quality risk management
  • Strong analytical and reporting skills using Microsoft Office and operational systems
  • Proven ability to lead leaders, manage complexity, and drive operational results

Responsibilities

  • Ensures consistent, site‑wide adherence to health, safety, and environmental standards
  • Leads and reinforces a strong safety culture through engagement, accountability, and visibility
  • Oversees planning and execution of production activities across assigned operational areas or shifts
  • Serves as a technical and operational authority for heavy equipment operation and training
  • Establishes expectations for operator competency, equipment care, and safe material handling
  • Owns operational KPIs including safety performance, throughput, recovery, quality, and efficiency
  • Analyzes production, quality, and equipment data to identify trends and systemic issues
  • Implements corrective actions and improvement initiatives to drive sustainable performance
  • Coordinates closely with maintenance, safety, quality, and commercial partners to align priorities
  • Ensures effective communication and collaboration across operational functions
  • Develops, coaches, and mentors supervisors and frontline leaders
  • Leads performance management, corrective action, and succession planning activities
  • Utilizes Microsoft Office, Remis ERP, and site‑specific technology to support decision‑making
