About The Position

The Department of Emergency Medicine is a dynamic and multifaceted unit encompassing administrative and academic functions, including oversight of the Emergency Medical Services Academy. The Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in managing and coordinating the department's administrative infrastructure, supporting approximately 115 faculty and 40 staff members.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic leadership across staff HR operations, faculty affairs and organizational development.
• Act as the primary HR liaison overseeing staff employment processes, hiring, onboarding, performance management, and personnel actions.
• Directly supervise departmental staff and student employees, ensuring professional development, performance alignment, and effective work distribution.
• Contribute to and support budget development and fiscal planning efforts, ensuring compliance with university financial policies, adherence to staffing budgets, and long-term financial health of the department.
• Drive initiatives to improve efficiency and organization, staff analysis and restructuring (as needed).
• Ensure department-wide compliance with UNM policies and standards.
• Oversee building operations and security, safety procedures, and infrastructure planning to maintain a secure and efficient working environment.
• Act as a collaborative partner across academic and clinical departments.
• Maintain high-level communication with faculty, staff, and leadership to support departmental goals.
