About The Position

The Operations Manager role at State Basketball Centre needs a positive, mature, energetic and experienced operations leader. The Operations Manager plays a pivotal role in overseeing the operational quality and effectiveness of daily operations, in partnership with sports partners and other venue users. In this world-class venue, reopened in 2024 following a $134m redevelopment, venue presentation, safety, security and emergency management are front and centre of the responsibilities of this leadership role. Reporting to the Senior Operations Manager, you will lead a team of Duty Managers and cultivate strong stakeholder relationships while upholding safety, risk management and venue delivery standards. This is a hands‑on leadership role. You’ll be present on the floor, supporting your team and key stakeholders, providing operational guidance to venue user groups from community level to high performance and professional, often solving problems in real time. Success in this unique role comes from influence, collaboration and strong relationships. The Operations Manager at SBC is a full time role, leading the operational needs of the venue, with a strong focus on venue safety and essential services. The position leads and coordinates security, first aid and traffic management, ensuring SBC operates safely, efficiently and in line with SSCT standards.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership and people management experience in operations, preferably in a sporting or venue environment - where you’ve inspired others, elevated performance and delivered outstanding results
  • The skills and qualities of a collaborative leader who listens, asks thoughtful questions and leads through influence, support and example
  • Strong knowledge of health, safety and risk management practices
  • Demonstrated stakeholder engagement, communication and negotiation skills
  • A calm, practical and safety-focused leadership style
  • Experience in planning, contractor management, and building strong internal and external relationships based on trust and teamwork
  • Strong understanding of security, first aid, WHS, emergency and traffic management
  • Proven experience leading teams and coordinating contractors
  • Relevant post-secondary qualifications in a related discipline
  • Current Victorian Working with Children’s Check (Employee)
  • First Aid, CPR and Advanced Resuscitation certifications
  • Victorian Driver’s License

Responsibilities

  • Leading and coaching a skilled team of Duty Managers to deliver service excellence, and a values‑driven culture
  • Managing day to day stakeholder relationships with sports partners and service providers
  • Ensuring appropriate operational coverage, rostering and contractor performance
  • Championing a culture of safety by proactively upholding all health, safety, emergency and risk management standards to ensure every person in the venue feels supported and protected
  • Identifying, monitoring and managing operational risks and incident reporting
  • Liaising with internal teams and external providers to support safe venue access and operations
