The Operations Manager for the Composites Manufacturing and Simulation Center (CMSC) at Purdue University is responsible for the day-to-day management of all aspects of a growing research center that focuses on composites process manufacturing and materials design, simulation, and modeling. This role requires a balance of operational oversight and strategic thinking, ensuring that the center runs smoothly while also contributing to its long-term goals. The Operations Manager will work closely with the CMSC director to achieve the center's mission, which includes participating in the preparation of grant proposals and assisting with the development and implementation of collaborative research education and outreach projects. Additionally, the Operations Manager will be responsible for developing communications for the center and administering its daily operations, serving as the Building Deputy for the Indiana Manufacturing Institute. In this non-technical position, the Operations Manager will coordinate with faculty and staff who handle fundraising and technical work, while managing all other aspects of the research center. This includes overseeing personnel onboarding, building support and maintenance, scheduling, and event planning. The role requires strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks, and effective non-technical project management. The Operations Manager will also serve as a primary point of contact for interaction with university support organizations, such as the business office, IT, HR, and safety departments, making knowledge of Purdue University operations extremely beneficial. The position involves significant communication responsibilities, both oral and written, as the Operations Manager will interact with partners and customers through various channels, including email, phone, video calls, and the center's website. Financial oversight, building management, and safety responsibilities are also critical components of this role, requiring discretion and the ability to maintain confidentiality. The Operations Manager will focus on enabling and executing specific projects while maintaining awareness of all aspects of the center and the overall Indiana Manufacturing Institute building.
