About The Position

The Operations & Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of various electronic control systems and equipment, specifically related to satellite data flow paths and antenna systems. This role involves monitoring, troubleshooting, and repairing complex equipment, ensuring scheduled passes are supported, and maintaining data integrity. The technician will work with a wide array of operational equipment including Cortex, PTP, Matrix switches, 700MR receivers, 1620 Combiners, Front End Processor, IMUX, GDP Model 268 Bit Synchronizers, TSS 2000, MFRs, DFM antenna drive system, GSIF equipment, GOES TACTS system, Fiber optic transmitters and receivers, up and down converters, multi-couplers, level converters, and IOLAN communication server. Additionally, the position requires proficiency with test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, and generators, along with a strong understanding of electronic principles, RF fundamentals, and advanced soldering techniques. The technician must be capable of isolating and resolving problems efficiently to ensure continuous data capture and system functionality.

Requirements

  • A minimum of five years of active electronic control systems knowledge, including maintenance on said systems.
  • The ability to effectively read circuit diagrams and blue prints.
  • Ability to trouble shoot to component level.
  • Excellent soldering skills required in order the replace failed components.
  • Must also be able to operate and properly interpolate the results obtained from test equipment such as analog, digital and RF signal generators, spectrum analyzers, digital and analog oscilloscopes, function generators, RF power meters, signal simulation equipment and fiber optic test equipment.
  • Experience with work stations operating on the following platforms: Windows, VAX, VMS, LINUX, Unix, and Solaris.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical school training or other formal training in electronics equipment operation and maintenance are a plus.
  • College or other types of degrees centered on electronics technology or electronics engineering may be submitted as experience.

Responsibilities

  • Have a good working knowledge of the 13M, 5M, 21M and 26M equipment, DATA flow Paths and equipment used.
  • Know what and where the proper tools and test equipment are for maintenance and repair.
  • Know what manuals and drawings to use and where to locate them.
  • Maintain equipment under their control in their area of responsibility.
  • Be able to recognize problems or failures and respond to them in an appropriate manner.
  • Monitor Pass setups and supports and resolve any anomalies noted.
  • Confirm schedules for all antenna supports.
  • Monitor equipment setup prior to AOS, communicate with appropriate control center and local CMD/TLM personnel.
  • Start plots if required, monitor event page, Scopes, Spectrum analyzers, data strings, IMUX, antenna tracking, and command generator for proper operation during support.
  • Keep the Lead informed of any equipment, communications, or software malfunctions.
  • Troubleshoot and repair end items where appropriate.
  • Make sure all scheduled passes are scheduled on the appropriate systems.
  • Know how to setup the DATA BASES for different spacecraft.
  • Setup and use test equipment including Spectrum analyzer, Oscilloscopes, Generators, Multi-meters, Power meters, Counters, Soldering Equipment.
  • Understand basic operation and how the following equipment fits into the flow of data from the satellite through antenna system to PACS: Antenna systems, Bit synchs, Receivers, Combiners, Generators, Matrix switches, Up/Down converters, Frame synchs, and Timing equipment.
  • Isolate 13-Meter problems to antenna tracking or a RF.
  • Quickly clear some data/RF problems with a receiver, combiner, or bit synch reset.
  • Go to a backup antenna if one is available and can be brought up in time to complete the pass if the FEP or the stream has halted or the lMUX didn't go into record.
  • Capture the data and fix the problem later if it can't be fixed in a matter of seconds.
  • Let the Lead and support center know immediately if you notice a problem.
  • Other duties as required.
