The Operations & Maintenance Technician I position at Tarrant Regional Water District is responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of water district pipelines and rights-of-way (ROW). This role involves performing various physical tasks, operating equipment, and ensuring safety standards are upheld while working in diverse environments, including remote areas and under minimal supervision.

  • Perform vegetation maintenance, painting, and building fences/irrigation/floodway/carpentry/gates/apparatuses on pipelines or ROW.
  • Travel long distances to remote areas to complete work under minimal supervision.
  • Haul materials and equipment for projects.
  • Drive/operate various equipment such as dump trucks or motorized boats.
  • Use chain saws and woodchippers to clear creeks, fence lines, etc.
  • Assist ROW Technician II & III in field work such as pipe to soil data collection, reading instruments, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Perform data entry on work orders and for timekeeping.
  • Clean, maintain and inspect all equipment daily.
  • Uphold safety standards and maintain a clean work environment.
  • Interact and coordinate with other TRWD personnel.
  • Respond to after-hours emergencies.
  • Participate in Hazmat Response Team activities.
  • Assist with monitoring and maintenance of Pipelines, ROW, and/or Floodway.
  • Assist with TRWD special events.
  • Be on call for emergencies.
  • Maintain familiarity with strategic district levels of service.
  • Engage in continuous improvement monitoring and innovation efforts.
  • Perform other duties as required.
  • Less than one (1) year of experience working with hand tools such as hammers, wrenches, drills, impacts, and pneumatic tools.
  • Ability to interact with the public and represent the district positively.
  • Ability to work overtime.
  • Ability to operate a 4-wheel drive pick-up and pull a trailer.
  • Experience hauling and backing utility trailers.
  • Ability to safely work with chainsaws and woodchippers.
  • Experience and/or knowledge of ROW operations or related field.
  • Equipment operating skills (ag tractor, backhoe, utility tractor, forklift, etc.).
  • Knowledge of pipeline hydraulics.
  • Knowledge/ability to read map books or blueprints.
  • Experience cutting and welding.
  • Competitive hourly wage ranging from $21.30 to $31.96 per hour.
