Based in Southern California near the Los Angeles International Airport, The Marvin Group consists of Marvin Engineering (MEC), Marvin Test Solutions (MTS) and Marvin Land Systems (MLS).  Marvin Engineering designs and produces military Alternate Mission Equipment.  Marvin Test Solutions designs and manufactures armament Test Equipment. Marvin Land Systems specializes in the design and build of power and thermal management systems. Our collaboration extends across a diverse array of programs and platforms, including major military prime contractors such as Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, and Raytheon.  POSITION SUMMARY:   Build relationships at all levels of plant operations including work center, cost center, department management including Directors and the Vice President of Operations and COO.  Ensure that company cost, financial and budgetary processes are understood and implemented as the Cost and Financial focal point for Operations.  Turn actionable data into insights as the cost, budget, resource utilization and efficiencies subject matter expert. Assist in developing and using clear & concise dashboards; translate numbers to a message; relate message to themes people relate to and easily understand. Analyze planned vs. actual hours, capture standard hours planned versus complete are translated into a cost performance and schedule performance indices needed for determining actionable management actions and forecast EACs and delivery schedules. Compare comparison to budgets and used for forecasting EACs by identifying and explaining variances to plan.   related to material usage and labor costs by program and at the lower level and summary level of Operations. Assist and coordinate the development of Operations “touch labor” proposal, budget and EACs estimates and the annual cost center budgeting process.   Support Lean and continuous process improvement. Assist in ensuring that the Manufacturing cost savings initiatives meet expectations for current and future years. Work with the Business Organization and Finance to evaluate new business opportunities; assist in providing insight for proposed capital (IRR, cost savings, post-mortems) & productivity projects and continuous process improvement). Identify best practices and process improvements across the MEC Manufacturing enterprise. Assist in the development of procedures and controls to ensure accurate engineered standard hours, budgets at each level of the manufacturing process down to the production order level.  Initiate time studies and take actions to improve accuracy of time reporting based on analysis and related findings.  Advanced skills in Excel with familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite) are crucial. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.

Requirements

  • Three to five years of lead, supervisory, or managerial hands-on Operations Finance experience in a DOD manufacturing environment preferred.
  • Cost accounting and analytics experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience in DOD proposal cost estimating, cost reporting, improvement curves in a manufacturing assembly and machining environment. 
  • Experience working with and/or developing meaningful operational reporting and guiding Operations members on interpreting and using financial, cost and performance reporting.
  • Experience coaching/leading a team preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Operations.  MBA is a plus.
  • Process strong math and analytical skills.
  • Have excellent people management skills.

Nice To Haves

  • CMA, PMP, APICS, Operations Management certifications are a plus.
  • Knowledge of TINA and FAR cost principles including Engineered Standard methodologies is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Build relationships at all levels of plant operations including work center, cost center and department management as a direct report to the Vice President of Operations, dotted line to Finance.
  • Ensure that company cost, financial and budgetary processes are understood and implemented as the Cost and Financial focal point for Operations.
  • Assist in developing and using clear & concise dashboards and KPIs that are relatable and actionable for Operations management.
  • Provide performance-based reporting to include budgeted vs. actual hours, rate analysis, establishing a standard hours set of reports to include a CPI, SPI and calculated EACs by department and program.
  • Work with the Business Organization and Finance to evaluate new business opportunities and become a proposal team member representing Operations Finance.
  • Assist in providing insight for proposed capital (IRR, cost savings, post-mortems) and participating in productivity and continuous process improvement projects.
  • Improve the engineered standard hours and learning curve processes and reporting within Operations.
  • Support Cost of Quality initiatives currently in-work across the enterprise.
  • Provide inputs to Operations Weekly Status Reviews and prepare briefing charts and reports for PMR and DLT/FLT/ELT meetings.
  • Initiate time studies and take actions to improve accuracy of time reporting based on analysis and related findings.
