About The Position

As a key member of the Services team at Ookla, you will be responsible for the health, scalability, and performance of our production and testing environments. You'll use your expertise in systems, automation, and cloud platforms to troubleshoot issues, implement improvements, and collaborate with various teams to support our mission of improving global connectivity.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • At least 3 years of experience in Operations Engineering, Site Reliability Engineering, or a similar role.
  • Solid understanding of Linux systems administration and networking.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language, such as Python, Ruby, or Go.
  • Proven experience with cloud computing platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP.
  • Familiarity with containerization and orchestration tools (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and infrastructure-as-code tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with diverse teams.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable systems for our production and test environments.
  • Identify and resolve complex infrastructure and application issues.
  • Develop and deploy automation and tooling to enhance system efficiency and reduce manual effort.
  • Manage and maintain monitoring, logging, and alerting systems to proactively identify issues.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including development and data science, to ensure seamless deployment and management of applications.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to provide 24/7 support for critical systems.
  • Contribute to the creation and implementation of operational policies and procedures.
