About The Position

We have an exciting opportunity to join our team as a Operational Director for our Ambulatory Surgery Center. The Operational Director has overall responsibility for planning, organizing and directing the clinical and operational aspects of the center. Reporting to the Vice President, Surgical Services, the Operational Director is expected to work in close collaboration with hospital leadership, strategy, patient experience, operational and financial leadership to achieve the patient experience, financial and operational goals. This position will also be overseeing the ambulatory management team..

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree and 6-8 years experience in hospital management and/or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in an academic medical center.
  • Successful track record in leadership and staff management.
  • Demonstrated success in working with physicians.
  • Experience with IT systems used in medical management.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.
  • Highly self-motivated and directed.
  • Keen attention to detail.
  • Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize and execute tasks in a high-pressure environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation.
  • Experience working in a team-oriented, collaborative environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Current registered professional nurse licensure in New York State preferred.
  • Masters degree preferred.
  • Basic Life Support certification through the American Heart Association

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility and accountability for the daily operations including planning, directing and coordinating the day-to-day activities of the ambulatory facility.
  • Adherence to hospital policies, procedures as well as regulatory standards.
  • Develops, fosters and sustains an environment of excellence in patient/family service, as well as staff growth, development and engagement.
  • Develops positive and productive relationships across disciplines to establish strategic partnerships to achieve shared goals.
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge and ensuring compliance with the current Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) and responding timely to grievances.
  • Promotes excellence in patient experience by monitoring patient feedback, responding to issues, and reinforcing best practices.
  • Fosters positive and productive work environments, founded in the principles of diversity, equity and inclusion to attract and retain staff. Demonstrates a steadfast commitment to engaging and meaningfully recognizing staff.
  • Reports any operating issues that may have an impact on financial results to hospital leadership.
  • Establishes a financial plan and utilize data to make strategic decisions. Designs the operational and capital budgets for the various service line(s) (salary and non-salary where applicable), in conjunction with the leadership; monitors expenses as balanced with patient volume and other indicators; and evaluates outcomes, making modifications and adjustments as indicated.
  • Holds self and others accountable for the delivery of exemplary care in a cost-efficient manner.
  • Collaborates with Physicians to support efficient workflows and optimize patient access.
  • Enforces adherence of NYULH policies and procedures and standards including but not limited to HIPAA, Compliance and Human Resources.
  • Works with hospital leadership to develop staffing standards, ongoing training and performance and productivity metrics.
  • Reviews operational dashboards and management reports to track performance and identify trends that need to be addressed.
  • Attends hospital leadership and administrative meetings and effectively communicates upcoming changes, upgrades, and initiatives to staff and physicians.
  • In conjunction with hospital leadership, collaboratively responsible for implementing business plan components and monitoring achievement of benchmarks and goals.
  • Collects, analyzes, and utilizes data to drive practice changes that integrate quality, safety, and productivity metrics to achieve excellence in patient outcomes.
  • Manages equipment including asset acquisition, maintenance, end of useful life planning and proposals for new/replacement items.
  • Performs other duties and projects as necessary.
  • Mentors leaders, managers, staff, and actively promotes the development of operational/financial performance improvement skills across teams.
  • Completes staff competency assessments and performance evaluations providing feedback, identifying training needs, and pathways for employee continued career success.
  • Conducts routine staff meetings and huddles to promote staff communication and feedback.
  • Supports employee participation in corporate meetings/web-ex to stay aligned with larger network updates and training as appropriate.
  • Establishes employee engagement committees to promote employee participation in key initiatives.
  • Develops staff related initiatives to show gratitude towards their efforts to support NYU patient experience model.
  • Promotes employee engagement activities within the practice, engaging feedback from support staff and leaders internally.
