About The Position

Business MT's goal is to be the lead business development division for the State of Montana by supporting business growth and the prosperity of Montana communities. Our mission is to retain, expand and attract businesses that provide an economic impact for Montana communities through public/private partnerships, leveraged funding and support of economic opportunities for Montana businesses and entrepreneurs. The Business MT Division administers programs that provide technical assistance (finance, marketing, export, planning) and financial assistance (grants and loans) to Montana's businesses with specific emphasis on projects that have business development, growth of revenue and job creation opportunities. This position supports the Division's business finance programs by managing loan servicing, ensuring data integrity, and monitoring performance across multiple programs, including the Automation Loan Participation Program and the Opportunities in Rural Economies (ORE) suite. The role is ideal for a detail-oriented individual who enjoys working with data, supporting program compliance, and collaborating across teams to drive economic impact in Montana's communities.

Requirements

  • A Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or Public Administration is preferred.
  • Applicable experience in State budgeting, program management, program analysis, organizational process development, data analysis, or financial management.
  • Experience with the fiscal note process and/or experience with reading/comprehending state statutes is preferred.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of public and private finance principles, including business lending, loan servicing practices, debt structuring, and the fundamentals of risk assessment.
  • Experience in program management and compliance frameworks.
  • Ability to conduct research and analysis to develop knowledge of issues involved in planning, funding, and managing projects eligible for Loan and Grant Program funding.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares biennial budgets and coordinates division-wide Records retention
  • Takes the lead in legislative fiscal matters including supervising the fiscal note process
  • Assists in developing policies, standards, procedures, and establishes priorities.
