About The Position

The Operations Associate II (AOI Machine Operator) is a bargaining represented position responsible for the operation and maintenance of Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) machines to ensure the quality and accuracy of printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic assemblies. This role involves inspecting electronic assemblies, identifying defects, and collaborating with the production team to ensure products meet high standards of quality. Additionally, perform soldering, desoldering, and rework of SMT components using precision tools and techniques to bring defective parts into conformance.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience operating AOI machines or similar inspection equipment.
  • Proven experience repairing and troubleshooting electronic assemblies and PCBs.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to identify and repair defects and anomalies.
  • Ability to perform detailed work under magnification, if necessary.
  • Ability to sit and stand for long periods of time and handle small components precisely.
  • Knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection practices.
  • Ability to read and understand BOMs (Bills of Materials), Parts Lists, and other technical documentation relevant to the SMT process.
  • Able to obtain IPC-610, IPC620, and J Standard 001 certifications on the first try or within two attempts.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical manuals.

Nice To Haves

  • IPC J-STD-001 certification or similar industry-standard soldering certifications.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in a high-tech electronics environment.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in manufacturing.
  • Experience with ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) protection practices.
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles and practices.
  • Willingness to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance.
  • Strong hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills to handle small components precisely.
  • Proficiency in identifying and correcting defects such as solder bridges, insufficient solder, missing components, etc.
  • Specific experience in handling and placing Ball Grid Array (BGA) and Chip Scale Package (CSP) components.
  • Proficiency in managing and handling different types of SMT materials, including single-sided, double-sided, and multilayer PCB assemblies.
  • Experience in programming and operating Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) machines to ensure the accuracy and quality of assembled boards.
  • Understanding and application of IPC-A-610 standards for acceptable electronic assemblies.
  • Familiarity with IPC-J-STD-001 standards for soldering practices

Responsibilities

  • Operate AOI machines to inspect PCBs and electronic assemblies for defects such as poor solder joints, missing components, and incorrect placements.
  • Inspect and verify product conformance to engineering drawings, specifications, and industry standards using AOI machines.
  • Identify and document non-conformances and collaborate with the quality and production teams to resolve issues.
  • Record inspection results and maintain accurate documentation of findings.
  • Participate in continuous improvement activities to enhance product quality and reduce production costs.
  • Perform soldering, desoldering, and rework of SMT components using precision tools and techniques.
  • Troubleshoot and repair defective SMT products or components as necessary.
  • Record and report production data into SAP.
  • Follow all safety and quality control procedures to maintain a safe working environment.
