Summary The O&M Mechanic Second Class is responsible for interfacing with the O&M Manager/Supervisor to receive direction on assignments and coordinate activities between the departments. The O&M Mechanic Second Class works under general supervision as a member of the Operations Department to support plant operations, affect repairs, and perform removal and installation of equipment and components. This is a full-time, non-exempt, union position. Must be willing to become a Bargaining Unit Member of the L68 Union. This position reports to the O&M Supervisor in Trenton, N.J. The hourly rate is $48.64 with mandatory annuity deduction of $4.50 for an hourly rate of $44.14.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in a work-related industry; preferably cogeneration/district energy
  • Must hold a NJ Blue Seal Stationary license or higher.
  • Experience in industrial operations and maintenance experience with boilers, chillers, engines, compressor, pumps, cogeneration, waste heat, and Cleaver Brooks boilers.
  • Must possess a valid driver license in good standing in order to operate a company vehicle. Must have and maintain a driving record meeting the standards of the company.
  • This position will require the following: climbing, lifting-minimum of 50 lbs., carrying and transporting heavy objects, standing for long duration, work at heights, crawling through portholes, manways and working in confined spaces, working outdoors during summer and winter, and wearing of personal protection equipment as required.
  • Can perform physical work in industrial environment and operate forklift.
  • Drive to customer locations to check out equipment and/or maintain, as necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Perform corrective maintenance activities to maintain plant equipment in optimal working condition.
  • Will assist with plant and district operations and perform required maintenance tasks.
  • Operate and maintain equipment in a cogeneration facility and customer boiler facilities.
  • Aligns valves and equipment, communicates, and verifies equipment startup/shutdown.
  • Assists with plant/district outage activities including lockout tagout, securing systems, draining, filling, etc.
  • Works daily in Maintenance Department servicing/repairing plant equipment.
  • Responsible for maintaining a positive attitude, professional and courteous behavior, motivation, initiative, cooperation, and participation.
  • Acts as a team member with all employees of the Vicinity staff.
  • Complies with all Vicinity Energy policies and procedures.
  • Responsible for providing shift or non-shift coverage for Auxiliary Operator during times of vacation, call-out, personal days, etc., as may be needed.
  • Responsible to train up to provide shift or non-shift coverage for Control Room Operator during times of vacation, call-out, personal days, etc., as may be needed after one year of service covering for Auxiliary Operator.
  • Must be able to work varying shifts, including overtime and “on-call” as may be needed by the Operations and/or Maintenance Departments. Must be able to work 12 hour rotating shift.
