About The Position

The Intermediate Operational Technology (OT) Technician is responsible for the field support, maintenance, and troubleshooting of industrial control systems across multiple operational facilities. This role supports PLC, SCADA, and DCS environments and works closely with operations, maintenance, automation, and IT teams to ensure reliable, safe, and secure operation of OT systems. This position requires a self‑motivated individual capable of working independently in remote and industrial environments while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and documentation. This position reports to the Team Lead, Operational Technology. It is a field‑based position based in Mountrail County, ND requiring regular travel to company facilities across our North Dakota assets.

Requirements

  • 3 to 7 years of experience in operational technology, automation, or industrial controls
  • Post‑secondary education in Automation, Instrumentation, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently in a field‑based role with minimal supervision
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem‑solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel extensively
  • Eligibility to travel to and work in the United States

  • Serial and Ethernet communications for OT and telemetry systems (RTUs, DAQ)
  • Troubleshooting of radio paths, signal strength, latency, and data reliability
  • PLC programming, online troubleshooting, and diagnostics
  • SCADA system configuration and support
  • DCS operations and basic configuration changes
  • Industrial communications and networking fundamentals
  • Control system backup, restore, and lifecycle management
  • Field device and I/O troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with troubleshooting gas turbines

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting oil and gas, energy, or industrial production facilities, particularly, gas plants, gas gathering systems, power generation, TMS and compressor stations.
  • Familiarity with OT cybersecurity principles and standards
  • Experience working in remote or unmanned facilities
  • Previous cross‑border work experience (Canada / United States)

Responsibilities

  • Provide field‑based technical support for OT systems, including PLC, SCADA, and DCS platforms
  • Troubleshoot, maintain, and modify control system hardware, software, and communications
  • Support commissioning, configuration, and startup activities for new and existing facilities
  • Diagnose and resolve control system, networking, and instrumentation issues
  • Perform system backups, restores, and version control in accordance with company standards
  • Support alarm management, logic troubleshooting, and control system optimization
  • Work independently at remote sites to manage tasks, prioritize work, and resolve issues efficiently
  • Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and contractors during maintenance and project work
  • Ensure OT systems comply with internal standards, cybersecurity requirements, and safety policies
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation and change records
  • Participate in after‑hours, on‑call, or emergency support as required
  • Travel regularly to Canadian facilities and occasionally to U.S. facilities in North Dakota
