About The Position

Operational Research Analyst / Data Scientist - 4 Uses advanced mathematical and analytical methods to help organizations solve problems and make better decisions. This position is responsible for identifying and answering questions related to detecting and mitigating Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) in a civilian airport environment. As part of the technology research team, the candidate will plan and execute research designed to collect research data and then organize and analyze this data to characterize the performance of different UAS detection and/or mitigation technologies when applied to an operational airport. The data analysis results will be detailed by the candidate in technology performance reports. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in operations research, computer science, engineering, business, mathematics, or information systems.
  • Minimum of 6 years of applicable experience; a MS in engineering, computer science, analytics, or mathematics can replace 3 years of experience.
  • Skill requirements include project management/organization, research techniques, creating plans, cost estimation, risk management, logistics, data collection, analysis, technical writing, and presenting formal/technical information.
  • Timely development and completion of deliverables that meet customer quality requirements without daily supervision.
  • Ability to define needed visual representations of data (e.g., data distribution over time, heat maps, scatter plots, and system performance over distance).
  • Excellence in written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to explain complex, technical material to technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to author technical reports that present research results clearly and logically.
  • Ability to provide technical direction to a collaborative team of technicians, UAS pilots, other Operational Researchers, RF/Spectrum Engineers, and UAS SMEs.
  • Experience with MS Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic environment using partially defined requirements.
  • Ability to work outdoors during all seasons to support system installations, calibration, and data collection.
  • Ability to lift objects weighing 25 lbs. or less.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding of JMP.
  • Experience with business process analysis or data manipulation.
  • Demonstrative critical thinking and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable using leadership and critical thinking skills to lead decision making and assist with tasks such as cost estimates.
  • Airport or aviation-related experience or working at the WJHTC is preferred but not required, e.g., airport operations, flight operations, pilot license, Part 107 Cert, or other aviation programs.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts quantitative analysis using operations research tools, economics, and other quantitative techniques in the areas of procedural implementations and performance issues.
  • Creates analysis procedures.
  • Assists in the definition of machine learning and data mining strategies.
  • Creates, deploys, maintains and refines decision management models.
  • Specialist in modeling and simulation functions or operations such as exercises, plans, coordination, demonstrations, and instruction in fields such as health, environmental, transportation, law enforcement, and security for military and civilian agencies.
  • Analyzes research data to characterize system performance and identify areas requiring more research.
