About The Position

Bluebird Kids Health is seeking an Operational Excellence Intern to help build the operational infrastructure needed to grow and scale effectively. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Operational Excellence, this role will own and execute a focused set of high-impact initiatives from discovery through implementation—outlining timelines, defining success metrics, and delivering tangible outcomes across the organization. This individual will play a key role in shaping how Bluebird operates at scale, leveraging approved AI tools and modern technology tools to create processes that are intuitive, impactful, and built to last. The ideal candidate is highly motivated, systems-minded, and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects in a fast-paced, high-growth environment—and a genuine passion for improving healthcare access for underserved children and families.

Requirements

  • Currently in school for an advanced degree in a relevant field (e.g., MBA, MHA, MS, or equivalent) strongly preferred
  • 5+ years of healthcare experience in project management, clinical operations, consulting, or tech-enabled healthcare services
  • Proven track record of designing and executing operations in rapidly scaling service delivery organizations
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to inspire a team and drive cross-functional collaboration and complex projects
  • Highly detail oriented, with proven experience managing multiple projects simultaneously
  • A strategic thinker with an analytical approach to problem-solving and decision-making
  • Self-starter comfortable managing ambiguity in high-growth environments
  • Familiarity with or eagerness to learn and utilize new AI tools

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with process improvement frameworks like Lean Six Sigma is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Own assigned initiatives from start to finish, ensuring each project is delivered on time with clear milestones and measurable outcomes.
  • Map current-state workflows, diagnose friction points, and implement solutions that create seamless, high-quality experiences for patients, families, staff, and providers
  • Develop and roll out standard operating procedures, training materials, and operational tools
  • Proactively identify and resolve bottlenecks, translating ambiguous operational challenges into concrete, actionable plans
  • Facilitate structured working sessions across Clinical Leadership, Central Operations, Practice Operations, Growth and Launch, and Technology to align on priorities, surface pain points, and drive consensus
  • Serve as a bridge across functions, translating operational needs into solutions and ensuring implementation is executed effectively across the organization
  • Communicate progress, risks, and recommendations clearly to senior leadership, maintaining visibility and alignment throughout each initiative
  • Leverage AI-native tools and platforms to design solutions that are smarter, faster, and more intuitive than conventional approach
  • Partner closely with Bluebird's in-house technology and product team to embed AI-powered solutions into our proprietary systems, ensuring innovations are scalable and built to last
  • Identify opportunities to automate, systematize, and modernize workflows
