About The Position

Bessemer Trust is seeking an Operational Due Diligence Analyst to join its Investment Department working as part of the Firm's dedicated Operational Due Diligence team. The analyst will work closely with colleagues across the Alternative Investments team (Hedge Funds, Private Equity, Real Assets and Advisory) as well as the External Manager Solutions group which sources long only external asset managers. The analyst will conduct detailed reviews of asset management firms and their critical operations to identify potential operational, legal, regulatory or reputational risks that could impact Bessemer's investments across asset classes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • A minimum of 3-5 years direct operational due diligence experience or experience working in related areas of fund accounting (public and private funds), audit, legal and compliance or broader back-office operations
  • Effective communicator with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Exceptional planning and organizational skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously and work under tight deadlines

Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive operational due diligence reviews of both new and existing external hedge funds, private equity, real assets, and long-only investment managers.
  • Participate in manager due diligence meetings taking an active role in interviewing senior personnel (COO, CFO, CCO, Head of Operations etc.).
  • Review the legal documentation, audited financial statements as well as operations, compliance, and trading policies and procedures of the external managers prior to investment and as part of ongoing monitoring.
  • Maintain periodic communications with managers to gather updated information related to their business operations and document changes that relate to operational risk.
  • Assist with the distribution of annual questionnaires and review the information obtained.
  • Assist with assessments of industry providers including administrators, compliance consultants, systems, accountants, law firms, and prime brokers.
  • Analyze and document findings in detailed due diligence reports, summarizing risks, mitigants, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with the internal Legal and Compliance departments as well as the relevant investment teams on matters related to operational due diligence.
  • Track regulatory developments as well as market and industry trends that could impact the asset managers or due diligence procedures.
