About The Position

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Endocrinology Department at Nepean Hospital and the University of Sydney as part of the Operation Glucose clinical trial, an HREC and Research Governance approved randomised controlled trial. The trial focuses on surgical patients with type 2 diabetes on insulin and aims to improve perioperative outcomes. In this role, you will combine clinical care with research responsibilities, including patient recruitment, inpatient diabetes management, and follow-up after discharge. You will also contribute to data management, trial documentation, and other research projects within the department. The position is supervised by Associate Professor Emily Hibbert and offers exposure to high-quality clinical research in a collaborative academic environment.

Requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent, registered with the Medical Board of Australia
  • postgraduate training year 3 or above with recent clinical practice; successful completion of RACP Basic Training written and viva exams preferred
  • experience and skills in managing diabetes
  • demonstrated ability to work independently and proactively in a supervised research and clinical environment
  • strong organisational and time management skills
  • valid Working with Children Check and National Police Check
  • You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this employment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
  • Your employment is conditional upon the completion of all role required pre-employment or background checks in terms satisfactory to the University.
  • Similarly, your ongoing employment is conditional upon the satisfactory maintenance of all relevant clearances and background check requirements.
  • This position is designated as involving child-related work. To undertake or remain in this position, you are required to apply for and obtain a Working with Children Check clearance in accordance with the Child Protection (Working with Children) Act 2012.
  • As this position is located on an NSW Health site, it is a regulatory requirement to complete compulsory employment checks prior to starting in this position.

Responsibilities

  • work closely with endocrinology consultants, surgical teams, and research staff
  • recruit and manage trial participants under consultant supervision
  • provide inpatient diabetes management for surgical patients
  • input and maintain data in research and clinical trial databases
  • ensure compliance with Good Clinical Practice ethical standards
  • contribute to other research projects within the Endocrinology Department under the supervision of Associate Professor Emily Hibbert
