About The Position

Member of a health care team that works with surgeons, anesthetists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel. Delivers direct patient care, and assumes appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery. Is designated as a physician point person in one or more areas of surgical specialty. Patient outcomes are achieved by assessing, planning and implementing, evaluating and documenting the delivery of patient care under the direction and supervision of registered nurse.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Acceptable orientation and training to perform as a scrub technologist in the surgical suite and other clinical areas.
  • Current BLS or within three months of hire.
  • Basic computer skills, reading and writing.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in formulating and implementing the medical and nursing plan of care.
  • Gathering information from the preference cards for all necessary items to perform a given surgical case. Discuss with surgeons their future needs for surgical cases and make the necessary preference card adjustments.
  • Working with the Registered nurse circulator to decide the immediate needs for a given surgical case. Assess the needs of the surgeon as to what is needed from the "Hold" items for a surgical case.
  • Work with product representatives and surgeon prior to cases to determine what will be required for the procedure.
  • Uses positive communication skills to problem-solve on a one to one basis.
  • Perform scrub duties accurately and efficiently according to department policy and procedures.
  • Function as first assistant to the surgeon on cases when one is required in accordance with the role defined by Washington state Law. Demonstrate the knowledge and skills required for this position in accordance with the competency checklist.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of sterilization methods required for specific instruments and equipment.
  • Observe and interact with patients and/or other members of the surgical team to identify physical and psychosocial needs of each patient.
  • Communicate information in writing and verbally to members of the healthcare team to promote optimal patient care.
