This position is 100% onsite opportunity. You will need to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. The Operating Room Support Coordinator works under the primary direction of the Perioperative OR Manager in conjunction with the Assistant Care Center Director and Clinical Director of Perioperative Services and Central Sterile Processing (CSP) in order to facilitate the efficient preparation and turnover of operating rooms. Performance of the duties outlined below requires the use of independent judgment and decision-making skills. The ability to interact professionally with individuals of many skill levels within the department and throughout the hospital is essential.

Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized Operating Room Technician program or Central Sterile Processing certification (CRCST or CSPDT)
  • Minimum 2 years of work experience in an operating room environment
  • Ability to make decisions quickly in a fast-paced environment with constantly changing priorities
  • Excellent organizational, communication, interpersonal skills, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to apply interpersonal communication skills to maintain an open network of communication among staff members and other health care professionals
  • Ability to comply with medical center policies and procedures

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher
  • Progressive experience in directing staff

Responsibilities

  • Supports the clinical needs related to efficient operating room preparation, utilization, and patient throughput.
  • Supervises the maintenance of instrumentation necessary to enhance the delivery of quality patient care. Monitors the use of specialty equipment and is responsible for the maintenance of specialty equipment. Educates staff on the use of specialty equipment/instrumentation.
  • Maintains frequent communication with surgeons regarding equipment and instrument needs of the department.
  • Reviews the surgical schedule in advance to ensure all needed supplies and equipment are present for all surgical cases, and if not available, makes arrangements to have the needed items.
  • Contacts and follows through with vendors regarding specialty equipment as necessary.
  • Directs instrument tray accuracy through re-ordering missing/damaged instruments.
  • Works with the surgical staff to ensure all needed supplies and equipment are present on the day of surgery and, if not, is responsible for obtaining the needed items.
  • Ensures that specialty implant trays are restocked.
  • Assures that used case carts are sent back to CSP as soon as the case is finished
  • Responsible for reviewing and updating preference cards in collaboration with the specialty team.
  • Maintains accuracy and inventory of all specialty trays in the SPM system or other future tray tracking systems.
  • Participates in the CQI process, identifies issues to be examined, collects data, analysis and disseminates.
  • Develops a method for facilitating productive and constructive relationships between physicians, operating room staff, CSP staff, and other health care team members regarding operating room flow.
  • Complies with standards and regulations of various licensures, regulatory, and accrediting agencies.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
