About The Position

Spectrum Healthcare Resources has a potential opportunity for an Operating Room Scheduler at Nellis Air Force Base. Join our team as a civilian Operating Room Scheduler and give back to our military community and their families.

Requirements

  • HS Diploma or equivalent.
  • Possess a minimum of one-year experience in an operating room environment is required. This includes, but is not limited to, medical administrative support services OR scheduling, OR circulating, OR scrub duties, central sterilization duties or pre-operative nursing.
  • The work is primarily sedentary in a hospital setting. However, there may be some bending, walking, standing and carrying patient information/OR data and reports.
  • Requires working knowledge of surgical scheduling/management systems (Epic, Cerner, etc.) to maintain the integrity of surgical templates, identify problems and devise solutions to scheduling conflicts, and independently schedule surgical cases with ease and accuracy.
  • Working knowledge and skill in utilizing various office computing software, such as the Microsoft Office Suite also required.
  • Knowledge of Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) privacy rules to ensure all protected information is safe guarded as required by law. Knowledge of Common Procedural Terminology (CPT) codes for accurate surgical case booking and coding.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers.

Responsibilities

  • The contractor shall supply all services for military treatment facilities (MTFs). Additionally, the contractor monitors services for higher management and develops plans to improve timeliness and accuracy rates, service availability, and overall MTF performance and compliance.
  • Serves as central point of contact for surgical scheduling in support of all surgical clinics at Naval Medical Center San Diego (NMCSD) as well as surgical clinics from San Diego area Veterans Affairs facilities. Appropriately schedules requested cases into assigned surgical time blocks in accordance with surgeon orders as well as the Main Operating Room business rules..
  • Provide a monthly case load report to JIF Program Managers.
  • As directed by government representative, adjusts and updates surgical block time templates.
  • Compiles daily Operating Room schedule and assists Clinical Coordinator with appropriate placement of "Time/Space Available" (TSA) cases when service block time is not available.
  • Monitor and track metrics. Data shall be recorded monthly and provided to the JIF Program Managers and Department Head, Main Operating Room. Metrics to be reported include actual hours of surgery for JIF patients relative to hours of available surgical time for JIF patients, and status of pending documentation required to arrange for surgical care for JIF patients. This list in not all-inclusive and other metrics that pertain to usage or efficiency, as well as metrics that could identify administrative bottlenecks may be required on an ad hoc or continual basis as directed by the JIF Program Managers.
  • Maintain knowledge of and enforce Main Operating Room Business Rules governing various aspects of program management and operations, including surgical block time lock out, prioritization of surgical cases, guidelines for maximizing block time utilization and OR utilization.
