About The Position

The Operating Room (OR) and Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) Registered Nurse (RN) provides specialized perioperative care within a dynamic, high-acuity environment. Working in an 11-room operating suite with a 14-bed PACU, the RN delivers patient-centered care across a broad spectrum of surgical specialties, including general, cardiothoracic, vascular, endovascular, plastic, ophthalmology, genitourinary, gynecology, neurosurgery, orthopedic, ENT, and robotic procedures. The OR RN is integral to the surgical team, serving as both a circulating nurse and scrub nurse, maintaining a safe, sterile environment, assisting surgeons, and ensuring seamless patient care throughout the surgical process. In the PACU, the RN monitors post-anesthesia patients, ensuring smooth recovery by addressing vital signs, pain, and post-surgical symptoms, while educating and supporting patients and families through recovery protocols. This role requires advanced clinical skills, precision, and adaptability to uphold patient safety, surgical standards, and quality care in fast-paced, critical situations.

Requirements

  • OR RN must have BLS and ACLS certifications to perform duties within the Operating Room/PACU Unit.
  • The personnel assigned by the Contractor to perform the services covered by this task order shall possess an unrestricted license to practice nursing in one of the States, Territories, or Commonwealths of the United States or the District of Columbia.

Responsibilities

  • Working with patients before surgery to complete paperwork and help answer questions or calm fears about surgery.
  • Monitoring a patient’s condition during and after surgery.
  • Selecting and passing instruments and supplies to the surgeon during operation (sometimes referred to as a scrub nurse).
  • Managing the overall nursing care in the operating room to help maintain a safe and comfortable environment (sometimes referred to as a circulating nurse).
  • Maintaining the sterile field, surgical instruments, sharps, and sponge counts.
  • surgical scrubs, positioning, and skin preparation of patients.
  • Educating patients on best practices for recovery, including pain management and keeping wounds clean.
