About The Position

Join a warm and caring team of dedicated professionals at Mount Auburn Hospital, where you'll experience the comforting atmosphere of a community hospital. Mount Auburn Hospital is located in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and has approximately 200 beds. It is affiliated with Harvard Medical School and features ten operating rooms that are staffed Monday through Friday, with evening hours and minimal on-call requirements during nights, weekends, and holidays. Staff members work 8, 10, and 12-hour shifts. New hires rotate throughout various specialties during a structured orientation to develop multi-specialty skills. Surgical specialties include cardiac, ENT, general surgery, gynecology, orthopedics, plastics, vascular, and more.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited Nursing Program required.
  • License Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts required.
  • American Heart Association - Basic Life support Certificate required.
  • ACLS required for some specific clinical units.
  • 1-3 years related work experience preferred.
  • Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provides direct care to patients and makes necessary nursing judgments.
  • Responsible for assessing the health care needs of patients for the formulation of a care plan, its implementation and evaluation.
  • Coordinates the care of patients and directs assistive personnel in order to provide safe, effective, efficient, equitable and timely, patient-centered care.
  • Works in a collaborative relationship with other health professionals to determine healthcare needs of patients and families.
  • Develops relationships with patients and families that maintain and communicate trust and respect.
  • Communicates effectively in the exchange of information.
  • Demonstrates the ability to act as a patient advocate.
  • Participates in the development of educational materials/presentations for patients and/or significant others and documents outcome in the medical record.
  • Ensures that patients and significant others receive education regarding discharge and the community services available.
  • Maintains annual mandatory education requirements, which include emergency skills and unit based competencies.
  • Participates in quality improvement activities.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patients, colleagues and Mount Auburn Hospital.
  • Participates in educational opportunities for professional growth, personal well-being and as required for license renewal.
