About The Position

Sentara is seeking an Operating Room Registered Nurse (RN) for Norfolk General Hospital's Operating Room (OR) in Norfolk, Virginia. This role involves performing competent nursing care guided by the nursing process and professional standards. Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is a 525-bed tertiary care facility, serving as the only Level I Adult Trauma Center and burn trauma unit in Hampton Roads, and is the primary teaching hospital for Eastern Virginia Medical School. The hospital is also home to Sentara Heart Hospital, Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance, and specializes in various areas including heart and vascular, neurosciences, neurosurgery, urology, oncology, spine care, advanced imaging, behavioral health, maternity, and women’s health, including a state-of-the-art neonatal intensive care unit. It is recognized as an accredited Comprehensive Stroke Center and a Magnet hospital for nursing excellence. Sentara Health is a Virginia and Northeastern North Carolina based not-for-profit integrated healthcare provider that has been in business for over 131 years, offering hundreds of sites of care including 12 hospitals, PACE, home health, hospice, medical groups, imaging services, therapy, outpatient surgery centers, and an 858,000 member health plan.

Requirements

  • RN Degree REQUIRED
  • Virginia RN License REQUIRED
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification required within 90-days of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Prior OR and Surgery Experience PREFERRED

Responsibilities

  • Perform a competent level of nursing care as demonstrated by the critical thinking model known as the nursing process.
  • Apply standards of practice including assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, coordination of care, teaching, health promotion, and evaluation.
  • Adhere to standards of professional performance, encompassing ethics, culturally congruent practice, communication, collaboration, leadership, education, evidence-based practice/nursing research, quality, evaluation, resource utilization, and environmental health.
  • Possess and apply clinical knowledge and skills to meet standards required by specific clinical areas.
