About The Position

Lead a high-performing surgical team at a 340+ bed acute care hospital in Overland Park, Kansas - Johnson County's only Level II Trauma Center and Pediatric Intensive Care Unit. This Operating Room Manager position oversees 11 operating rooms with a volume of 550 cases per month, managing approximately 40 perioperative staff members. The facility offers comprehensive surgical services, including trauma, women's and children's healthcare, and emergency services across four emergency departments. This leadership role reports to the Director of Perioperative Services and provides the opportunity to shape surgical excellence in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment. Requirements

  • Current Kansas RN license in good standing or active multi-state compact license
  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing
  • Minimum 3 years of recent acute care Operating Room management or leadership experience
  • Demonstrated expertise in perioperative nursing, surgical services, and team leadership
  • Excellent oral and written communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
  • Strong computer proficiency and ability to utilize electronic health records and scheduling systems
  • BCLS (Basic Cardiac Life Support) certification or ability to obtain upon hire
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) certification or ability to obtain upon hire
  • PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) certification or ability to obtain upon hire

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
  • CNOR (Certified Nurse Operating Room) or other perioperative specialty certification
  • Experience managing Level II Trauma Center surgical services
  • Previous experience in high-volume surgical environments (500+ cases/month)

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing leadership for assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care across all perioperative phases (preadmission testing, pre-operative, operative, and post-operative services).
  • Assist the Director of Perioperative Services in planning, directing, and managing surgical services staff to ensure quality patient care delivery on a 24-hour basis.
  • Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and interdisciplinary teams to meet patient and family needs while maintaining operational efficiency.
  • Manage staffing schedules, resource allocation, and budget oversight in a fiscally responsible manner to optimize unit performance.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and accreditation requirements (Joint Commission, CMS, state regulations).
  • Foster a culture of safety, excellence, and continuous quality improvement through staff development, performance management, and colleague recognition.
  • Serve as on-call manager to address urgent operational needs, escalations, and emergent cases outside of standard business hours.
  • Mentor and develop perioperative staff through coaching, competency validation, and professional growth opportunities.
  • Monitor key performance indicators, surgical metrics, and patient satisfaction scores to drive operational improvements.
