About The Position

The position involves assisting members of the Surgical Suite Team in maintaining the operative schedule by transporting patients from various patient areas to and from the Operating Room. This includes areas such as SDC, Post-Op, Inpatient Floors, and the Emergency Room. The role requires a working knowledge of all OR beds, tables, and attachments, ensuring proper working conditions of equipment prior to patient care. Responsibilities include delivering and returning appropriate equipment to each operating room, assisting in the care and handling of delicate equipment, cleaning all equipment and cords, changing linens on patient beds, verifying oxygen tanks, and maintaining patient safety during transfers. The position also involves adhering to safety policies, demonstrating knowledge of Infection Prevention Standards, assisting with room cleaning and turnover, restocking supplies, and working effectively as part of the surgical team.

Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English.
  • One year experience as a Nursing Assistant II (NAII) or nursing assistant.
  • One year experience in an Operating Room/Post Anesthesia Care Unit area.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of aseptic technique and principles preferred.
  • Ability to function independently in a high stress, fast paced, critical care area.
  • Must be able to assist with lifting patients, moving equipment, and disposing of trash and linens.

Responsibilities

  • Transport patients from patient areas to and from the Operating Room.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of all OR beds, tables, and attachments.
  • Ensure proper working conditions of equipment prior to patient care.
  • Deliver and return appropriate equipment to each operating room.
  • Assist in the care and handling of delicate, sophisticated equipment.
  • Clean all equipment and cords prior to returning to designated locations.
  • Change linens on patient beds and stretchers.
  • Verify all oxygen tanks are full and on stretcher at time of transfer.
  • Maintain patient safety during transfers.
  • Adhere to safety blood/body fluid policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Infection Prevention Standards.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective attire.
  • Assist with room cleaning and turnover as assigned.
  • Assist with patient positioning, lifting, and transfer.
  • Restock and maintain sub sterile rooms and supply areas.
  • Demonstrate initiative to keep areas clean and orderly.
  • Assist RN in restocking OR room cabinets.
  • Work effectively with other staff as a member of the surgical team.
  • Prioritize tasks according to urgency.
  • Exhibit ability to multitask.
  • Assist in orientation of other personnel.
  • Perform other work-related duties as assigned.
